Rescue Me Week, Day 5 – Sadie and Rudy

Well, this is it! The very last day of Rescue Me Week! Wow! It sure has been lots of fun. Big huge brindle wiggles and wags to everybuddy who’s pawticipated! I know my Grampa J is smiling down on all of us!

Grampa J in uniform, ca. 1969

Before we get started, I wanted to wish everybuddy who’s been in the military a Happy Veterans’ Day! Grampa J was a veteran and serving his country was one of the things he was very Most Proud of.

Today we have TWO Adorable Adoptables to show you. This is kind of a long postie but I sure hope you’ll take the time to read it cuz it kind of tells you the kind of pawson my Grampa J was.

Almost all of Grampa J’s doggies were little and white. We dunno why. He didn’t go out to adopt little white doggies on purpose. It just kinda happened that way. All of ’em were homeless doggies who just kinda found him. He even had a white schnauzer once and you know there’s not a lot of them around!

But most of the little white doggies he ended up with were Malteses. So we thought one of our Adorable Adoptables should be a little white Maltese from Oklahoma, where he lived.

So let us introduce you to Sadie! Sadie is not only a Maltese, she also has the same name as of one of the first little white dogs Grampa J ever had. He found her abandoned and running around in a busy parking lot. I sure hope this Sadie is as lucky as that Sadie was!

Sadie is with Maltese Rescue of Oklahoma City. She’s about 9-10 years old and she is 12 pounds. Even though she is a little bit older girl she is in good health and is a sweet sweet girl. She is housetrained and gets along great with other dogs. She would do fine as an only dog too. She has been in Rescue for awhile now and deserves to find her “Forever Home”. She would be perfect for a senior person that wants a loving companion.

Now, my Grampa J was really more of a doggie person than a kitteh person. But the first time he came to visit, Brudder Cap’n Ripley convinced him that kittehs weren’t so bad after all. Cap’n Ripley commandeered my Grampa J’s lap and my Grampa J didn’t move a muscle for a whole TWO HOURS so that he wouldn’t disturbs the Cap’n.

And that’s how we imagine them both across the Bridge right this very second. Cap’n Ripley stretched out on Grampa J’s lap, surrounded by lots of little white fluffy dogs!

Of course, we couldn’t lets the week go by without somehow paying tributes to our dear, darling Cap’n who went to the Bridge in August. So our second Adorable Adoptable is a kitteh named Rudy, who’s all orangey like Cap’n Ripley. He’s with the Most Marvelous Second Chance Rescue in Norman, Oklahoma, which is where we asked peoples to sends green papers in memory of Grampa J when he went to the Bridge.

I am very friendly & laid back. I have this cute thing I do when sitting on a shelf. I like to let one of my back legs hang off the side and my humans at Second Chance seem to think it’s really adorable. I am affectionate and really just a cool kind of guy all around and anyone would be so lucky to have me for a companion!

So there you have it! Our last two Adorable Adoptables for Rescue Me Week. I hope you’ve had as much of a super terrific time as I have had this week. From the bottom of my little brindle heart, I wanna thank each and every single one of you. Whether you put up a postie or took the time to read about (and send good vibes to) some of the Adoptables, you helped make this week one of the very best weeks EVER!

  14. Pip

Oh Mayzie, Grandpa J sounds like such a wonderful person. I came from a shelter, but all of our cats over the years have just kind of found my mom. My papa thinks there is some kind of an invisible sign on my mom that says “free cat food”.

Gosh, I wish Sadie was a little closer to IL. My mom’s best friend’s mother just had to put her Maltese to sleep. Like Grandpa J, she has always had Maltese dogs and adopted an older guy who was abandoned in a forest preserve, from Red Door (my shelter) awhile back. I know if she lived in Oklahoma she would adopt Sadie in a second!

    Your pal, Pip

P.S.: My post is up today.

  15. He would be so proud of you. What adorable furbabies hope they find their Furever Home
    Kisses and Tail Wags,

  17. What a great week! I think your Grampa J must be really, really proud of you. I sure hope that Sadie and Rudy find furever homes real soon. They’re so cute, and I love Rudy’s expression!

Today I talked about my good buddy Aldridge from Legacy Boxer Rescue! http://savetheboxers.blogspot.com/2011/11/11-11-11-is-here.html

Dear Mayzie , Mayzie Mom, and all you Animal Bloggers-
I have loved reading the post each day! This was a wonderful tribute to Grampa J and makes me wish that I had met him. Mayzie’s mom is slowly introducing me to blogging (I’m scared!) and the thing that amazes me is how supportive all you animal bloggers are! What a wonderful and generous community! Thank you all for “pawticipating” in Mayzie’s Rescue Me Week…it means the world to Mayzie’s mom, Amber, who is a very good friend of mine—I am sooooo lucky!

  37. Hi Mayzie! Our post is up: http://rottrover.blogspot.com/

Thank you so much for doing this, and thank you Grandpa J for having such a wonderful daughter.

    -Bart and Ruby

  38. Oh my dogness….mom agreed that it was probably good the kitteh’s were in TX. She actually told dad she wanted to go get them. He didn’t totally freak out. 🙂 And Tux could not be any cuter if he tried, and those ears are the bestest!

Dad is thinking a girl dog might be better since I’m already stuck with the little monkey…but maybe…..

    Wags!
