The Smudge Report

Hi everyone! Smudge here!

I’ve been in my forever home about a month and a half now. So Mayzie said I could borrow the blog today to fill everyone in on how I’m doing. Where should I start?

Queen Abby, Ruler of All That She Surveys still doesn’t like me much.

We are not amused!

One minute, everything seems to be just fine and then the next, she’s running at me screaming, “Off with its head! OFF. WITH. ITS. HEAD!!!!!” It’s a little disconcerting, I can tell you that. Mom says it’s just going to take time and really, things ARE getting better. But it’s hard to be patient. I really want to be her friend NOW! Or at least not have to worry so much about my head.

However…

My canine siblings are super cool.

I especially like hanging with my big brother, Ranger…you know, just chillin’ and doing manly, brother stuff. I do have to remember that Ranger has…what did Mayzie call it?….oh, yes, “boundary issues”…and not encroach TOO close in his personal space circle. But as long as I do that, we’re pretty good buds.

Let’s see, what else? Oh, yes!

I have acne! Yep. Acne. Did you know cats can get acne? I have it on my chin. How embarrassing! I have to take anti-bionics PLUS Mom and Dad have to wash my chin every night and put this sticky ointment stuff on it. Blech! I know they’re doing it for my own good and I try not to squirm too much but between you and me, I HATE it!  I sure hope it clears up soon. (Mom wanted me to include a picture of it but I didn’t want to ruin my chances with the lady cats gross you all out. You’re welcome.)

So that’s not so great BUT I forget all about it when I’m relaxing outside in…

My Very Own Tent!

How cool is THAT?

See, last year, Mom started feeling like Abby and Cap’n Ripley needed a little more mental stimulation. They were indoor cats (like I am) but Mom thought it would be great for them to spend some time in the outdoors. So she bought them a cat tent! Now, they liked it just fine inside the house…

But once she sat it up outside, they were pretty freaked out about it. So Mom put it in the garage and kinda forgot about it. Then last weekend, she noticed it and thought, “Hmmmm, I wonder if Smudge would like it?” And guess what? I DO!

It’s so much fun to get to go outside and smell the air and lay in the sun and watch the birds and squirrels. It’s a little slice of Heaven!

Here birdy, birdy, birdy!

Well, that’s about it for now. All of us (including Abby, even if she refused to pose for the picture) hope you have a super Friday and a purr-fectly wonderful weekend!

A cat tent; how good is that?! My cat KC (though we do have “issues”) is allowed outside but she is a tad agoraphobic. Mum wonders is she we;re in a tent when Mums were outside she might be better. Plus I couldn’t eat her…ahem… Deccy x

  2. Smudge, tell Mayzie, thanks for letting you have the blog today. We are so glad to hear from you Smudge. Sounds like you are doing just terrific. We are just glad you were able to find that wonderful home. What a great tent.
Don’t worry about Abby. She will probably get better. We have a kitty here that does the same thing. She charges at the others. Some kitties just want to be alone. Have a great day.

  3. Smudge…great job for a first blog. We hope you and Miss Abby continue to build on your relationship….I know how awful it is when your “sister” takes a sudden dislike to you and starts doing the kamikaze thing to your head. Teka does it all the time. Do not let Brudder Ranger know, but she is truly a Witch (except that is not the first letter>)

  4. How wonderful that you get blog time and a super cool tent to play in outside! You fell into the kushy life, I would say.
Yuppers, there are still adjustments to be made but I bet it all happens in no time flat.
We’ve dealt with kitty acne here. Not fun, but think of it as special one on one time with mom and dad.

  5. Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

Hi Smudge, so good to see you again. Thanks, Mayzie, for sharing the post today with such a cutie. We think we would be very unhappy if we had to stay inside all day. We bet you like it inside that tent OUTSIDE.

Have a great weekend. And good luck getting Abby to be nicer.

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  6. Hey Smudge! Great update! Thanks for letting us know how you are doing… we wouldn’t worry too much about Abby she probably really really likes you and is just totally intimidated by your manly handsomes! You KNOW how kerazy gurls can be, right???

  12. Wow, a cat tent?! Momma and me had no ideas they made those things. My kitty brother Scribbles is desperate to be an outdoor cat. Momma sometimes puts on his harness and leash and lets him walk around, but wow oh wow would he love that! I’m going to start saving my allowance to see if I can buy it for him.

    Glad you’re doing so well!

  13. That cat tent is BRILLIANT!!! I don’t have a kitty, but if I did, we would totally be using that. 🙂

Nice to meet you Smudge. 🙂

Hi Smudge! You sound lie you are really enjoying your new home. Mom was wondering where your mom got that cool cat tent!! We are thinking that Milk and Tweet would like one too! Does your mom have to keep an eye on you while you are in it? We are think Milk would try and get out.

    • Hi Daisy! Smudge here! There’s a linky up in the post about where to get the tent. (Mom got it from Amazon.) Mom or Dad definitely keep a close watch on me when I’m in it. I can’t get out since I don’t have any claws but mom doesn’t want any stray cats coming into the yard and trying to pick a fight with me while I’m in my sanctuary…I mean…tent.

  15. Wonder if you are part canine? Cute

  21. Woof to you Smudge!!!! That was so nice of Mayzie to let you do a guest post (she is an amazing sister). I wouldn’t worry too much about your acne. It will go away in no time and you look very handsome and fresh faced in the photos above despite it all anyway. And your cat tent looks like a TON of fun! I can’t believe you have it all to yourself. And I love the family photo (ex HRH Abby, who will come around eventually) at the end of the post! Much love to you – XXOO – Mazzie

  22. We bet you and Abby will be best of friends one day soon. You just gotta be patient a little bit longer, Smudge!
Now that is one cool tent!

    Love ya lots,
    Mitch and Molly

  23. Woo hoo! I am totally loving your action observation tent. I bet you are too, right? As for those boundary issues… just snuggle up after he has dozed off.

Mr. Smudge, it’s great to hear that you’re enjoying your furever home and fitting right in! Your speshul tent looks so comfy! I’m sure Miss Abby will luv you soon when she sees how much you want to be her very own kittycat brudder. We didn’t know that kittycats could have acne. I hope it doesn’t bother you for too long!

    Luvs,

    Jackie

  26. Wow, Smudge, it looks like you are fitting right in. I hope Abby comes around soon. Your camp-out tent is super-coolio!

Smudge, you look like one of the gang! I did not know about kittie acne! I hope it clears up easily and soon.

  29. Hi Smudge! You sure are cute (even if you are a cat) and I love the photo of you and Ranger and Mayzie. Good luck with the acne and Abby. We think it’s great that you are an indoor cat (it’s much safer and healthier for cats — and for birds, chipmunks, squirrels, etc.) and we think it’s great that you have a cat tent so you can spend some time outside and still be safe. But do birds and chipmunks come up to the outside of the tent and taunt you because you can’t get to them?

  30. Lorenza

    Hi, Smudge!
    Glad to see you today!
    Your tent is pawesome!
I am happy to know you are happy at home!
    Kisses and hugs

  31. Smudge, you are one friendly, outgoing cat! You sure hit the jackpot–glad its going so well.

Hmmm… wonder if they’ll let you go on the next camping trip with them? You sure look ready to camp. Hope your chin gunk is all cleared up now. Maybe it’s just your teenage years, although it sounds like a tiny infection. Good thing your pawrents are so attentive.

    Jed & Abby

  33. Am I the only one that wants to see the kitty acne? I had no idea! I’m definitely going to have to google that! And that tent is the coolest invention ever!
