Pre-rinse and Pawsitive Thoughts

Okay, first things first…

Brudder Ranger is going in to have his teethies cleaned today. So of COURSE, my mom is all crazy freaked out mildly concerned and it would prolly help her a lot to know everybuddy is sending him good wishes. Thank you, thank you!

Now, the next thing I wanna talk to you abouts today is the pre-rinse cycle.

The pre-rinse cycle is when you help out your humans by cleaning up their dishes after they get done eating something. If you don’t know abouts pre-rinse in your house, it’s prolly cuz your humans are holding out on you don’t understand what a very much valuable service this is.

Now…it’s true that SOME humans might think that we want to do the pre-rinse cuz we luvs to slurp up all that tasty left-over goodness. But that’s not it at all. Nope.

We’re just very Most Helpful.

This is how it goes during every breakfast time around our house:

After mom does her jumping-around-and-getting-sweaty-thing, she makes her oatmeal and dad makes his cereal.

I sit close by to make sure mom eats all her breakfast.

Eat up, mom! Breakfast is the Most Impawtant meal of the day, you know!

Now, Brudder Ranger prefers to snoopervise from afar.

You're doing a bang-up job there, Mayzie. You just let me know when they're all...zzzzzzz....

Mom’s a little messy so sometimes I have to do a little pre-pre-rinse clean-up.

Oopsie! Don't worry...I'll gets that for you.

Then once they’re all done, I alert Brudder Ranger.

Brudder Ranger! Battle stations!

And our big moment arrives!

For the love of God, woman, just put the bowl down!

You have to make sure you do a VERY thorough job so that the dishwashing machine doesn’t have to work too hard. It also helps to switch bowls and check each other’s work afterwards.

Rinse. Rinse. Rinse.

So there you have it! The Impawtance of Pre-Rinse!

Any questions?

  3. Pre-rinsing has been one of our jobs since we were little. Grandma OC learned from her Mom and Dad, she taught Mama Dott and Uncle BG, and they taught us! It’s one of our MOST FAVORITE jobs! 🙂 Gimli, Pip & Mercy

  4. Thanks for the insight. We never get to do that….probably because we have one human and three dogs. sometimes we get left overs in our bowls. Then we do a great job of cleaning them.

Frequently, we have to rinse HER of crumbs. BOL!

    XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy

  5. We are sending Brudder Ranger tons and tons of woofs and some might strong purrs too. We know just how your Mom feels Mayzie. Our Mom is the same way. She worries herself silly. So all the luck to you Ranger.
We always pre-rinse the humans plates and we really clean the cats plates so Mom doesn’t even have to wash them very often. Take care. Will be thinking about Brudder Ranger.

  6. Lots of extra terrier vibes for Brudder Ranger today.

And we are pre rinse experts here. Our favorite pre rinse dishes are from Lasagna, or maybe scrambled eggs. Yummm..

Y’all are doing a good job!

  7. In the words of you, Mayzie…that was a Most Helpful tutorial. Around here, we do not have regular pre-rinse activity, but always with ice cream bowls.

  8. Good luck with your dentist, Ranger! 🙂

Thank you for explaining the pre-rinse for me Mayzie, now I understand why Rufus and Turk wait so patiently at my feet while I eat. I always thought they were begging but now I know they were just waiting for the pre-rinse part of their jobs! 🙂 You are so good at explaining things!

  9. Hmmmm. Looks very much like our household! Some. of beg a bit, but I just sit off to the side and wait to be served. I know something always comes my way…..and yes I do help pre-rise those dishes and bowls.
Good luck to you Brudder Ranger with getting his teeth cleaned. I just know you will be tip top. Did you that see sugar had to have a HUGE tooth pulled? She is still a bit groggy this morning but doing well. Hugs, Ruby

  10. We will be thinking of Brudder Ranger today & can’t wait to see pics of his shiny clean teeth! Every once in a while I get to help with dishes, but not as often as I want too.

    XOXOXO
    Pauley James

  11. Purrs to your mom and Brudder Ranger – we are sure he will be fine!

As for pre-rinse, we tend to try this when dishes are in the sink already and then mom yells at us to get off the counter!! sheesh….

  12. Frankie Furter

I have my paws crossed fur Brudder Ranger!!!
Now that Pre-Rinse thingy is MOST impawtant.. it keeps STUFFS from going down the drains and making the plumbing get all full and yucky and causing the Crack Up guy from coming to your house. So it SAVES tons of green papers fur our peeps. YES!!! Pre-Rinse is VERY VERY inpawtant. and you two do it VERY VERY WELL.

  13. Good luck Brudder Ranger! We know you will do just fine……and end the day with shiny bright chompers!

  14. Oh Mayzie we know bout pre-rinse here!!! All my dogs have been very good at that job. That is a very important service you dogs provide!!
Brudder Ranger you have our prayers that you come through your go to sleep so they can clean your teeth and then wake up fine and happy with nice clean teeth!!!! Hope they cut your nails while asleep too!!! Or are you one how loves to have your nails cut???
I would love your phone ## in my in box so when ~~~~ I can call you and tell you all about it!

  15. A minister was asked to dinner by one of his church members. He knew she was a bad housekeeper but agreed. When he sat down at the table, he noticed that the dishes were the dirtiest that he had ever seen in his life. “Were these dishes ever washed?” he asked his hostess, running his fingers over the grit and grime.

She replied,”They’re as clean as soap and water could get them”. He felt a bit uncomfortable, but blessed the food anyway and started eating. It was really delicious and he said so, despite the dirty dishes. When dinner was over, the hostess took the dishes outside and yelled, “Here Soap! Here Water!”

    • Haha! Oh, that was a funny one, Mr. Jerry! But, well, I promise that if you came to our house after we had done the dishes, you wouldn’t think they were dirty at ALL. We are Most Thorough.

  16. This reminded my momma of a flakey thing her did (about 87 years ago) when her was in college…..her was irritated with her sloppy roommate, so her let angel dog Icee Bear pre-rinse ALL of da roomies dishes and then put them away in da cabinets. My momma meant to just make a point, and then put da dog washed dishes in da dishwasher……..well, oops! Her forgot! Next thing her knew, the roomie was having her dinner on those sparkling clean dog wash dishes. My momma never did have da nerves to ‘fess up’ to what her did

  17. Wait a minute, MY mom keeps telling me that whatever’s in the human bowls tastes yucky to dogs. She wouldn’t LIE to me, would she??

  18. We know Brudder Ranger will come out of his tooth cleaning just fine so he can taste all the wonderful foods in the pre-rinse cycle even better!

I have to chuckle about the pre-rinse cycle. Our little Ginger here is the QUEEN of that task! She stands at the dishwasher, paws on the door giving the dishes an extra rinse before they are washed. She has done this for years!

  19. Dear Brudder Ranger and Mom…not to worry we are 200% certain everyone in Blogville has you in their purrs today….we’re looking forward to seeing your million dollar smile tomorrow.
    MOL MOL MOL
Mom said if i would start licking her legs she could give up shaving…cause my sandpaper tongue is better than any razor.

LET ME JUST SAY MOM HAS HAD A BEAR OF A TIME WITH OUR BLOG TODAY. She got lots of message about Blogger not being supported by our browser told us to change to Google Chrome which we did and now we have the upgraded blogger interface which is 200% different from what we were used to. After all of that she finally got on our blog and can read comments. The only problem is she isn’t sure how she got here. MOL. At one point she thought this would be the end of blogging. Mom is not at all technical.
    Hugs from your BFFF,
    Madi

  20. Guess what! I hads my teefies cleaned dis summer and if nuttin’ happened to me then I knows fur sures Brudder Ranger will be just fine and dandy. My mum was awfully worried bouts me so we understand how your mum is freakin’ out…just tells her to breath…inhale…exhale.
Nows, I is a little embarrassed to admit dis but I wasn’t awares of da pre-rinse cycle…afters all these years. Maybe it’s cuz mum accidently shut Brudder Alber’t nose in da washer onetime.

  21. Donna Shuford

OH Brudder Ranger will be so handsome with those pearly whites! Good thoughts and vibes for him til he gets back home. We all worry about our 4 legged ones when they go have a procedure whatever it is. And the pre-rinse cycle now I understand why my dogs circle the diswasher!

    Donna of NC

  24. This is definately a job that our hoomans have been keeping from us! We have to add though, both our mommy & daddy do a great job of “pre-rinsing” their own plates. Bol!! We did get the juices from daddy’s steak on our kibble last night though. Delightful!!
    Smooches from pooches,
    BabyRD & Hootie

  25. The OP Pack

Oh yes. We love to do that too, but the Momster has to do it when dad isn’t watching. He doesn’t like up us licking the dishes:(. It sure is a great way to help AND get some tasty yummies too.

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  26. We rarely get to pre-wash. Our mom is so mean!
Our paws are crossed for you, Brudder Ranger!

    Love ya lots,
    Maggie and Mitch

  27. What a furry great job! Wish my raiser would let me do that 🙂
Fingers & paws are crossed fur Brudder Ranger!!

  28. The Road Dogs

We’re HOOOOGE fans of the pre-rinse! You and Ranger have excellent pre-rinse skills. It’s especially helpful with the oatmeal, which can be really hard to wash, even for the dishwashing machine! We’re sure your pawrents appreciate your efforts very much!
And hugs and good thoughts to Ranger!
    The Road Dogs

  29. Mayzie,

We is so happy dat brudder Ranger is A OK and his teeth are squeaky clean now! Mom won’t let us pre-rinse dishes either…da nerve!

    Woofs and Licks,
    Maggie Mae and Max

  30. I’m sorry I missed this in the morning, but I’m so glad Ranger is okay! Life just wouldn’t be so cultured and interesting without him around. Perhaps he’ll grace us with a new blog post soon. I always love what you have to say, but Ranger’s posts are pretty cool, too!

I don’t do dishes in the morning because Mom and Dad always have yogurt, but I do make sure that the yogurt cups are thoroughly clean before they’re thrown away!

  31. We have been so deprived and are sooooo going to talk to Mama about this “pre-rinsing” thing!!

  33. You guys are so helpful with your pre-rinsing! What in the world would we do without you?? Not only do you pre-rinse the dishes, but you help clean up the floors when we drop stuff! Gosh, you guys are just about as helpful to have around the house as a dishwasher or broom… just another day for you guys though right? You just want to be helpful whenever you can huh? 😛 Best wishes!

  35. My mom was laughing and laughing and laughing at Minna Krebs’ mom!

And I must agree, the pre-rinse is very important! I am very skilled at this as I practice this every single day. I ams waiting for it to become an Olympic sport, then look out world, here I come!!

    Your Pal, HoneyBuzz

  36. Jed & Abby in MerryLand, USA

We’re sure Brudder Ranger came through his teeth cleaning with flying colors. Mama always get anxious when we have to have anesthesia, too. We get to pre-rinse the oatmeal bowl in the morning, but nothing else on account of Abby’s chronic pancreatitis. Bummer. But you should see that oatmeal bowl shine when we’re finished with it.

    Jed & Abby

  37. Tucker

PRe-rise? When you guys are done can’t you just put the bowls back in the cupboard? I’m sure you cleaned them very well.
