I’m a Campin’ Dog

Hi, hi, everybuddy! I’m back! Gosh, I sure did miss you. Most luckily, things are starting to get more back to normal arounds here and mom said we could start blogging and visiting my furends again. YAY!

And just in time, too, cuz I’ve gotta tell you abouts what I did this weekend.

So a few weeks ago, my mom and dad came home with THIS thing.

It’s called a Shall-Ay (but it’s spelled “Chalet” – isn’t that ker-azy?). Anyways, they told us that it’s a house on wheels and it would take us on Big, Exciting Adventures.

Now, between you and me…Big, Exciting Adventures kinda skeer me a little bits so I really wasn’t sure about this at ALL. But they PROMISED it would be fun and so last Friday night, they packed up me and Brudder Ranger and the Shall-Ay and we headed out to a place called Lake Pueblo State Park.

The first night, I sure didn’t think it was much fun. I missed my bed and my condo and Cap’n Ripley and Sisfur Abby. The Shall-Ay made funny noises and it kinda shook whenever you’d walk around in it.

Can we go home now, pretty please?

Plus, we were in a place called a “campground” with a lot of other BIG houses on wheels and there was lots going on and there wasn’t any GRASS at ALL! Okay, there was a lake to look at but since water makes brindle furs melt right off, I wasn’t impressed.

But the next day, mom and dad made me a little spot under one of the only trees in the whole, entire place where I could check everything out and I decided that maybe it wasn’t SO bad.

Well, while I was looking around, I noticed something.

What IS that?

Do you know what that is? Mom says it’s called a PRAIRIE DOG and it lives under the ground! Well, I’d never heard of such a thing and I was super excited to meet these little dogs. I tried to look as furendly as pawsible but, well, they were actually kinda rude. They kept just sticking their heads outta their holes and screaming, “DANGER! DANGER!” over and over again.

DANGER! DANGER!

Silly little dogs. Don’t they know I just wanted to say hi?

I made it my mission to try to meet one up close and pawsonal so I kept a lookout for the chance to introduce myself. I asked Brudder Ranger to help but, well, he kinda fell asleep on the job.

You see any over there, Brudder Ranger? Brudder Ranger?

Now, as if things weren’t exciting enough, mom and dad took us for a hike! And gosh, was that ever fun! The best part was when Brudder Ranger and me had a lizard round-up. Yeehaw!

Come out! Come out! Wherever you are!

When we got back, we were super hungry so dad grilled us up some DEE-lish HAMBURGERS and then we watched a Most Magnificent sunset.

Well, after our super wonderful day, mom made out the bed in the Shall-Ay and we all curled up together and I had the most sweetest dreams of lizards and prairie dogs and our next Big, Exciting Adventure.

Oh Mayzie, you saw some great critters. We love chasing lizards here, but we never knew dogs lived underground. We might have to start digging.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

We spied Brudder Ranger’s little snoot in the blankets of your bed.

Yay for the Shall-aye! That lizard round up looks like such a blast! Did you build a corral for them? Oh I would have luved goin on that round up with y’all 😀 And you saw prairie dogs? Odd looking things. Bit of a cross between a squirrel, a gopher and a dog??? 😉 Great adventure!

  3. You and Brudder Ranger look like you were having an awesome time camping, Mayzie! We think we’re liking that shall-ay!

    Love ya lots

  5. Hi Mayzie, welcome back. Wow that looks like a super-fun camping trip! But now I’d have to disagree with you about the water part. Maybe it’s because I have cattle dog fur but I LOVE that stuff! I especially love it when my dad throws my ball into the water and I hafta go swim for it!

But yeah those prairie dogs are awfully rude. And loud too. My big sister Raven, who packed her bags and went on a trip to the Rainbow Bridge a long time ago, well she told me on our first visit to the dog park that chasing after prairie dogs is kind of a mug’s game and don’t even bother wasting your time on the little twits. She was pretty wise so I took her advice. So glad you found a lizard to chase instead!

  6. That looked like a great adventure Mayzie. We are so glad you had a good hike. Poor brudder Ranger looks like he is buried in that bed. That is a wild looking house on wheels. But it will be fun to go different places. Take care. Oh an by the way, we are so glad you are back.

  7. So glad you’re back, Mayzie! Your brand of sunshine was missed. What a fun time. I’ve never seen a Shall-Ay like that. Not that I’m super familiar with camping equipment. Looks tricky to get dressed in…lots and lots of windows!

  8. Hi Mayzie! I’m so glad you and brudder Ranger wound up having a good time. Isn’t camping the most fun thing?!…Always neat things to see and smell and meet! (Well mostly) I’m so happy you are liking it now. You are soooo lucky. Mom and Dad haven’t been able to afford to go camping for over two years and there is now something wrong with the camper which is too expensive to fix. Boy, the Tribe and me sure miss Traveling and camping! Sometimes we just go to where the camper is parked at our friend’s house. When we see it we get all exciting to get in and go! But we just stay in it for a while and pretend stuff….still, it’s kinda fun. Here’s to wishing you and your wonderful family all kinds of safe traveling and adventures down the road.
    Hugs, Ruby & “The Tribe”

  9. Now that is an adventure and a half! Mayzie, I wish I could have been with you. I’d sure have enjoyed meeting those little dogs, too. I wonder if Mom would get me one as a pet. Right after she gets me that chinchilla…

It’s good to see you back!

    Bunny

  10. Wowser…that was an exciting adventure. And we learned lots of things we didin’t know. Like: Dogs live undergrounds. And..Brindle furs dissolve in water!

Oh and Teka says to tell Brudder Ranger that she is a champeen lizard wrangler if he needs any help

    gussie

  11. now stevie wonder and sir chick are buggin’ me to take THEM camping so that they can meet some lizards and prairie dogs too!

  12. Benny & Lily

Your new little shal-et (humans can’t spell) is so cool. We bet your adventure was purrty cool. Wonder if you could bring the shal-et inside the house to sleep in

WoW…you are one lucky dog…we want to go camping but will have to take a motor home, Lizard roundup for Fergie and i would be great…we had one last night on the back porch, but being in the wild would be so much better. Scarlett the Greyhound would have to stay home, she would go crazy chasing Prairie dogs,,she would chase them to the state line…

so glad your lovin’ your shall-ay…sorta like a large dog house on wheels..
    Happy Tails to you guys..

    Georgie B and family

YOU ARE VERY BRAVE TO SLEEP IN THE SHALL-AY AND I’M VERY IMPRESSED THAT YOU HAVE LEARNED FRENCH TOO. MOL
Mom and I cracked up at ‘water makes brindle fur melt’!!
When mom told me she went to see the Pirate Blackbeard I thought of my Cap’n and just knew he would have loved seeing. Mom and Dad have been to the museum many times and good grief they might have even been there when your peeps were there….It is very nice to know our Mom’s have walked on the same ‘planks’!! MOL
Kitty Hugs and kisses and human hugs to you all,
    From you BFFF,

  15. littlemissjackie

Goodness Miss Mayzie, looks like you had a super fun time! I’m glad your Shall-Ay turned out to be comfy for you, it sure looks cozy! It was nice of you to try and make friends with those little underground doggies. Too bad they weren’t very friendly! Did you catch a lizardy tail? Mom says some lizards can leave their tailses behind for you to play with if they are busy and have to go somewheres else.

We are sure glad to have you back! Can’t wait to hear about more of your adventures!

    Luvs,

    Jackie

  16. Hi Mayzie,
That little tailor like you had there was like what I spent the first 7 years of my like in!!! I had a ruff childhood.
So happy you had a good time and so HAPPY you are back home and things are getting back to normal………..
    xx, Fern & Tinker

  17. Wow, Mayzie – you had quite the big adventure in that chalet. We would have been a little unsure about the whole thing too, but we are glad you got it all figured out. That sounds like a very fun hike – Thunder thinks lizard hunting would be just the thing for him.

Good to see you back, we have missed you a lot.

Woos ~ Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  18. YIPPEE!!!! Mayzie and Brudder Ranger are back!! We missed you so much! We love roundin’ up lizards. We do it in our patio!! We’ve never seen a prairie dawg, but we have seen ground squirrels. They’re fun to chase, too, butt very shy for some reason…
    Glad you’re back!

  19. Mayzie Mayzie Mayzie. I missed ya girl….So glad your back. And what an awsome adventure you had to tell us about. And oh, I love the new traveling house you have. And hambergers on the grill in the outdoors. What a great thing for a dog to get to do. And the hike and the prairie dogs…..I am so excited you had such a good time and SO glad your back.

    Missed ya
    Bert

  20. Hi Mayzie! What an adventure!!! Thanks for sharing with us!

    Licks,
    Ruthie

  21. I am so glad you had a great time camping and got over some of your fears. New adventures are definitely intimidating, but if you open up yourself to the experience you can have a fantastic time. It sounds like even without tasty grass, you managed to enjoy yourself.

I love the chalet! We just have a boring old tent. Our dog has to sleep on a blanket on the ground. You don’t know how lucky you are, Mayzie.

  22. ANOTHER great trip for you, Mayzie! But I have to ask… Does laying on top of Brudder Ranger count as “curling up” with him? 🙂

  23. Sarge

    Hey Mayzie!
Wow, what a pawesome camping trip! I love camping too. Lizards???? That’s so cool! I love those things.
    Grr and Woof,
    Sarge, COP

  24. Teddy Bear & Sierra

Looks like you and Brudder Ranger had a ton of fun on your camping adventure. We hope you’ll get to play with the prairie dogs next time.:)

    Love,
    Teddy Bear & Sierra

  25. Pip

Mayzie!! Oh my gosh, I am so happy to see you! I love your camper, but that first picture of you is pretty funny! I have never seen a prairie dog before. They look kind of cute!

Thanks for your interest in helping Miss Judi and her kitties. I forgot to mention in my post that you don’t have to have been officially hatted to participate. You could hat yourself and post a fun picture of yourself in cool hat!

    Your pal, Pip

  26. MISS MAYZIE!

i’m so very much full of the happy happy joy joys to see you!!
your shall-ay thingie looks pretty spiffy, and you know what, none of those pesky mosquito buggers can get in there like they can in a tent. nice!
i bet you are gonna go on 50 gazillion campin’ adventures now. those prairie doggies were just jelly cuz they weren’t havin’ as much funsies as ya’ll were. teehee!

    *woof*

  27. Ina

Welcome back!!! Your new shall-A looks like fun to have adventures in! You & Brudder Ranger look happy & healthy! Enjoy the rest of your summer sweet Mayzie!! xo

  28. That place looks so pretty!
Prairie dogs are so awesome–they have different words for “danger” depending on the source of danger, whether hawk or coyote or human or something they can’t identify!
I don’t blame you for loving them Mayzie–but they may just not have known the word for a pretty dog like you!

  29. Mayzieeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.. you are back. Finally. We missed ya.

That is one very very nice nice adventure on them camping grounds..and the chalet is a funny funny shape.. hehhehehehe.. glad it was all spooky spooks.. when someone try to jump around in one.. hehhehehee

thanks for sharing your great adventure with us. The sunset is indeed very beautiful.

  30. Looks like a great place to take dogs camping! I want to take Ziggy camping one of these days, but i’m afraid he’d eat the tent.

  31. It sure looks like you had a great time! Welcome back, we’ve been missing you!

  32. jet

haha you are lucky to have a house on wheels! we just have this tent:

  33. Jed & Abby in MerryLand

Welcome home! Looks like you ended up having a terrific time. Must be a LOT colder out there than it is here, if Brudder Ranger needed to crawl under the blankies to sleep. Bet your kitty siblings were happy to have you home, though.

    Jed & Abby

  34. How cool for you, Mayzie! We know exactly how you feel because Papa got US a BIG Camping trailer so we can all go camping with him and Grammy! We’ve gotten to go several times over the summer so far, and Papa wants to go at least once a month now. Isn’t it so interesting all the different things you can see out there in the wilds!?!?

Those ground dogs look a lot like the ground squirrels we have around here, and they AREN’T very sociable are they? The squirrels around here are downright destructive! Lizard hunts are also fun, but be careful about rattly snakes! They can be NASTY!

Grammy is thinking about letting us write a blog every once in a while, and she says we will put up pictures of our camping adventures too. (We’ve posted some on our Country Corgi Facebook Page) The Country Corgi Crew

  35. Mayzie
Lizards and Prairie Dogs, I’ve never seen such things!! I’m sure I would love to chase them too! Sure like your shall-ay, that is gonna be fun, you’ll see 🙂

    Wyatt

  36. MAYZIE!!!! I am so very much excited for you! I was skeered at first too but after a trip or two I realized my home on wheels was just like my real home and was my safe spot if I got overwhelmed with the other houses on wheels around us. There are so many cool places to go! You’re going to have so much fun!!!

    Wags,
    Zona

  37. What an awesome camping trip. LOVE the shall-ay! Mom thinks the prairie dogs are adorable. We think they’re funny! Can’t wait to read about more of your camping adventures!

    The Road Dogs

  38. You are gonna LOVE the shall-A! You can go soooooo many places! maybe we’ll meet on the road one day! we have rounded the bend are are slowly making our way back home. Maybe by late Sept, if it has cooled off in Atlanta!

  39. OH….I just don’t know what to say. Don’t know where to begin. Camping? Dogs underground? Lizards? A Shall-A??? And all of y’all were snug as bugs in a rug in that Shall-A? Oh….it’s just too much for one Scottie to comprehend. All that fun you had! Woo Hoo! I’m so glad you guys are back to bloggin’, but, I must say I’m happy you had such a terrific adventure.
I’ll have to speak to my peeps about doing something like that. I don’t think a Shall-A is in Our future, but I’m thinking the ‘ole station wagon would do for a little road trip.

    Aroooo—Welcome HoooOOOOOOme Rooo, Stuart

  40. We never heard of a shal-ay either, but it looks like fun! Those are some funny, paranoid little dogs you found out there! We wish we could see one. Mama says she saw them once when she was a kid. She says they live in holes, and when she saw them, there were a million of them popping their heads in and out of the holes! How come THEY get to dig holes and WE don’t?

  41. daisydog

What an amazing trip!!!! We have never been camping, sounds like a great time:)
