Look What We Found

So last week, me and Brudder Ranger took our dad out for his afternoon walk. We were leaving some peemails, having some good sniffs…

When all of a sudden, we heard…

“Hey! Hey there! Hey y’all!”

Well, to our surprise, we saw this headed toward us…

Now, at first I thoughts maybe it was Booker Man come all the way to Collie-rado to see me! But it only took a second to figure out that this wasn’t a labradude. This was a labraGAL!

Well, Brudder Ranger pretty much immediately told her in no uncertain terms to move along and leave us alone. But me…I wasn’t sure what to do. She didn’t haves a human with her so I told dad and Brudder Ranger that maybe she needed our help. Right about that time, the labragal says…

“Hey y’all. Gosh, I’m really sorry to bother you but, well, have you seen my human around here anywhere? I mean, she was JUST here.”

“What? NO! We haven’t seen any humans,” barked Brudder Ranger. “Now get out of here. Shoo! GO!”

Well, I felt kinda sorry for her. “But, Brudder Ranger, maybe we oughta help her,” I said. “I mean, put yourself in her pawsteps. Wouldn’t it just pretty much be the worst thing in the whole wide world if our pawrents got lost? I bet her human is real skeered being out there all alone.”

Well, Brudder Ranger huffed and puffed and wasn’t very much happy but after a quick family conference, we decided to take her home with us. We found out her name was Bailey and she was oh-so-grateful to us and just couldn’t quit smiling. She told us all abouts how her human likes to talk on her cell phone while they’re on their walkies and just wanders off sometimes.

“Um, well, maybe you oughta keep her on a string,” I offered helpfully.

“Oh, I s’pose,” Bailey giggled. “But she seems SO happy bein’ able to just have that freedom that I just hate to take that away from her. You know?”

Well, I thought this was kinda cuckoo cuz if my mom or dad had a tendency to gets lost, I’d prolly keep ’em on a string. But we all gotta take care of our humans the best way we see fit. I guess.

Most luckily, she had her identification with her. And so dad called her human and her human showed up real fast. And you could tell that Bailey was SO relieved to find her human safe and sound.

So most luckily, everything had a happy ending. But still…if I was Bailey, I think I’d keep my human on a string from now on.

  1. WOW Mayzie I don’t understand some humans I really don’t fancy wandering away from your doglet what on earth was wrong with them. I would never ever wander away from Richie or Ronnii I would hate it if they lost me. Not only would they be worried so would I, the thought of them alone just gives me the wiggins.
Bailey is lucky she ran into you and Ranger, I do hope she told her pawrents off.

  6. Please tell Brudder Ranger that we think y’all are HEROES for helping Bailey. Pawsonally, we never let our humans out without their strings. Except once in a while, when Teka gets out and runs away, then I let them go out without me to look for her.

  10. We’re definitely with you on the string! Bailey is awfully lucky that it was some nice people and dogs who found her. She could have been lost out there for a long time, or met someone who wasn’t so nice. You did a good thing, and I hope Bailey rethinks the string issue!

  11. Oh MY DOGS Mayzie talk about being in the right place at the right time….Bailey is very very lucky she ran into you and Ranger and you two had your human on a string and he is a smart human!!! It is a fact raising humans is a very hard job.

Mom told me she sees lots of humans walking dogs and talking on the phone. Mom says she can’t walk and chew gum at the same time!!!

  12. Good thing you guys were there to help her find her human! Those humans have a tendency to wander off sometimes! Bailey definitely needs to get her human a very thick piece of string…maybe yarn would be best!

  15. Great job, Mayzie, helping out with getting Bailey back to her dad. (I wonder if she was named Bailey because of her cream color?)

  16. Pip

Thank goodness you were there to help, Mayzie! I love a happy ending!

    Your pal, Pip

  17. Mayzie I thought that might be Booker Man too when I first saw the picture! Maybe Bailey is Booker Man’s distant cousin. Great job talking your dad and Brudder Ranger into helping Bailey out!

  18. I think Bailey needs a different human. Bless you for helping a pup in need! On Saturday I was driving by a “dive” hotel in Anchorage in a spanking brand new Mercedes loaner car (mine was in for service) when I spied a tiny teacup black poodle pooping in the parking lot. I ZOOMED back to the hotel thru icy streets, got back into the hotel lot and dog was gone, but there were some men standing at the door. They assured me the dog was back in the hotel with its human, that he lets it out to poop. I told them to tell the human I had stopped by to get the dog to find it a better home. Judgemental, yes. But I was all for helping this little critter!

  19. Cupcake

Bailey is so beautiful. I thought this post might end telling us Mayzie had a new sister!

    Love, Cupcake

  20. Wow that was so nice of yall to help her out, she is a pretty dog. Thats scary when humans arent kept on their leashes and get away!
    Good thing she had identification!

  22. You have to keep an eye on those humans. They’re quite distractible.

  23. The OP Pack

Some humans just aren’t very responsible, are they? Bailey is such a pretty girl. We are so glad that you were able to help her find her lost human. She definitely needs to keep her on a string.

So glad there was a happy ending.

Yep, you gotta watch them every minute! We’re glad it had a happy ending. AND she did look like Booker, from a distance.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

Bella and Brudder Ranger are out of the same mould.

  32. Pheww…good thing you guys were there to help her get back to her humans.

  33. rottrover

Miss Mayzie, you have such a big heart!

  34. Once again your sweetness is overflowing!! I’m so glad you were there to help Bailey find her human. I agree… if she keeps wandering off while on her phone, it’s best to keep her on a string!

    Wags,
    Zona

PeeS: Please tell your mom that her comment on Puddles’ bloggie re: the crazy poster was so wonderful. She has a knack for putting thoughts and feelings into such eloquent words! (My mom is not so good at that but it seems like when she reads your mom’s posts she says, “That’s EXACTLY what I am thinking!”)

  35. Oh, it’s so good you were there! I would hate to think of something bad happaening to a sweetie like that. I like to keep my humans on a string whenever we’re in a strange place. I hate when they wander off by themselves. Packs need to stay together.

    lotsa licks, Lola

  36. Oh yeah, Mayzie – I totally agree with you! My human gets a bit annoyed sometimes with all these humans wandering around, stuck to their phones, with no idea where their doggies are or what they’re doing!! 👿

    Slobbers,
    Honey the Great Dane

  37. Kristine

Yay. I’m so glad this story has a happy ending. Unfortunately, we’ve met a lot of dogs wandering around our neighbourhood with lost humans. Most of the time these dogs don’t have any identification on them. If they did it would be a lot easier to get their humans back. It always makes me sad.

    • Oh, yes…it makes my mom and dad nutty when they finds a dog wandering along without any identification. I mean, humans hardly ever leave the house without their ID. Why would they lets their doggies?

  38. Oh, thank goodness she had a tag on! If not you might have ended up with a sister, cuz she is WAY too good-looking to take to the pound! Nice job to your papa!

    Snorts-
    Brutus & Carmen

  39. That is lucky you guys found her. She could have gotten in some real trouble, or even ended up with some bad humans. At first I thought it was the Booker too!

  40. Lorenza

    Two happy things on this.
First, she found you and you helped her.
Second, she had an ID tag so you could help her!
Glad she is back with her people!
    Kisses and hugs
    Lorenza

  41. We agree, Miss Mayzie, you are a doggie with a Very Big Heart. Those who have suffered greatly are capable of loving greatly. Bless you and Brother Ranger, too. We’re sure his heart was in the right place. We’re glad Bailey was so lucky this time and we hope there won’t be a next time.

    Jed & Abby

  42. That is a great sign! And I just came over from Frankie’s post so I know he loves it!:)

    Hugs,

  43. daisydog

Keeping humans on a string is very important, as they tend to wander off when they notice something of interest. also don’t leave the gates open becuase they run off!

  44. That’s a GREAT happy tale! We’re sure Bailey’s humans were relieved and yours probably were, too. Our Mom & Dad are ALWAYS relieved when they find a loose dog and are able to return it to its home!
