Flat Brutus Week Part 4: Helen Hunt Falls

Okay, okay. I know what you’re thinking! What? That Helen Hunt actress has a whole waterfall named after her?

But nooooo…cuz, see, before there was this Helen Hunt…

This is not THE Helen Hunt.

There was THIS Helen Hunt

THE Helen Hunt

Now, I think this lady is pretty neat so today I’M gonna tell you all abouts her! She was a real famous author-lady who lived a jillion years ago from 1830-1885. She wrote a whole gob of stories and poems abouts the place where we live. And lots of ’em revolved around the place where Helen Hunt Falls is – Cheyenne Canon. Cheyenne Canon is a park owned by the City of Colorado Springs and is one of the Most Prettiest places around here. Me and mom and dad and Brudder Ranger all luvs to hikes on lots of the trails there.

Usually it looks like this but it was all rainy the day we went with FB.

And we have Miss Helen Hunt (Jackson) to thank for that cuz she started this letter writing camp-pain to convince the peoples that ran Colorado Springs to make it into a public park. And they were like, “Wow! This lady is so smart that we oughta name a whole waterfall after her!”

She also holds a real special place in my heart cuz she stood up for the American Indian peoples when they were being treated real bad by the government peoples. She knew it was Most Wrong to be mean to somebuddy just cuz they’re different than you. So to makes people see how bad this was, she wrote two really important books called A Century of Dishonor and Ramona.

I thinks she was a Most Amazing human, don’t you?

Anyways, we had made plans to take Flat Brutus hiking different places when he got here. But very much unfortunately, my dad hurt his ankle and so for some reason, my mom didn’t think she could handle us and FB and the camera (I don’t know why) so all those plans kinda went out the doggie door.

But there’s this real nice trail near Helen Hunt Falls and we decided to leaves dad in the truck while we did a little bit of exploring.

Me and Brudder Ranger tested out this bridge first to make sure it was safe.

Okay, FB! Your turn!

It's Most Amazing how good FB can keep up - being two-dimensional and laminated and all.

FB posing by another little stream.

C'mon, FB! I thinks I heard a squirrel over here!

Sheesh, mom! Posing is boooo-ring!

But I haves to admit that FB looks pretty handsome in those wildflowers.

And since we're stopped, I guess I might as well gets in a little butt sniff.

We all had a very much wonderful walkie and we were all pooped by the time we gots back to the truck…

Not me. I'm not tired. Zzzzzzzzz...

Tomorrow we’ll shows you some of the peoples and other doggies FB met while he was here. And then it’s gonna be time for Flat Brutus to pack his little bags and fly off to his next host family, Baby Rocket Dog & Hootie.

Gosh, we sure are gonna miss our little pal a LOT!

Hooray for Helen Hunt and forward thinkers like her! That is a wonderful place she saved for everyone to enjoy.

Alpha was reminded when her sister visited from the USA. She bought some souvenirs with her Chevy Chase Bank credit card. (Chevy Chase being in Maryland). The sales girl looked at it and said, ‘you mean he has his own credit card?’.

That Flat Brutus is quite a goer…..recovered from the drinking quickly. Too bad dad had to stay in the truck. Hope his ankle heals soon.

    XXXOOO Daisy, Kendra & Bella

  3. Nows I can sees why Miss Helen Hunt t (da original) is your hero…always thinking fur da under dog, so to speak. Oh and what exactly does FB’s butt smell like?

  4. That Helen Hunt sounds like a fantabulous person. She must have gotten a certain amount of flack for her views in her day, but now she’s got a waterfall for standing up for what she believed in. Thank you for telling us about her.

You have shown Flat Brutus such a good time, I wonder if he’ll need to rest up a little before starting his next round of adventure. I figure he keeps up so well because maybe being flat and laminated makes him more aerodynamic. I don’t really know, though, because I’m a Shar Pei, not an engineer.

Please tell Daddy we all hope his ouchie gets better real fast.

    wags, Lola

We continue to be busy at our house. The deck has been removed and we are thinking perhaps we will just finish up the repair and put window boxes under our two front windows. We decided NOT to replace the front deck. Happy weekend! xoxo

That FB most certainly gets around. Mom and I still think he might be hitting the sauce some…he seems to be a tad unsteady on his feet. I bet he sleeps well on the plane as he heads to his next destination.
